Sorti en janvier 1979, No Mean City marque une nouvelle évolution dans le son de Nazareth avec l’arrivée du guitariste Zal Cleminson (ex-Sensational Alex Harvey Band), qui renforce les textures heavy et théâtrales du groupe. Plus sombre, plus dur, cet album illustre à merveille le tournant hard rock du groupe, sans renier ses racines bluesy. Le titre fait référence à une description du Glasgow des années 30, et le visuel signé Rodney Matthews en renforce la dimension fantastique et urbaine.

Released in January 1979, No Mean City saw Nazareth adopt a heavier, more theatrical hard rock sound, thanks in part to new guitarist Zal Cleminson (ex-SAHB). The album is darker and more aggressive than its predecessors, with thick riffs and a gritty atmosphere. Inspired by the novel about Glasgow’s rough past, the album title and its fantasy cover art by Rodney Matthews give it a mythic and cinematic edge.
