Formé en 1965 à Cambridge, Massachusetts, Ill Wind est un groupe pionnier de la scène psychédélique de la côte Est des États-Unis. Composé initialement de Ken Frankel (guitare), Carey Mann (basse), Richard Griggs (chant), Judy Bradbury (chant) et Dave Kinsman (batterie), le groupe fusionne folk, rock et bluegrass avant de se tourner vers un son psychédélique plus audacieux. Après le départ de Judy Bradbury, remplacée par Conny Devanney, le groupe enregistre son unique album, Flashes, produit par Tom Wilson (The Velvet Underground, Simon & Garfunkel), sorti en 1968 sur le label ABC Records. Malheureusement, une distribution limitée et une promotion insuffisante empêchent l'album d'atteindre un large public, malgré des passages remarqués à la radio et une base de fans fidèle. Ill Wind se sépare en 1968, mais leur influence persiste, et Flashes est aujourd'hui considéré comme un joyau du rock psychédélique américain.

Formed in 1965 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Ill Wind was a pioneering band in the East Coast psychedelic scene.Initially consisting of Ken Frankel (guitar), Carey Mann (bass), Richard Griggs (vocals), Judy Bradbury (vocals), and Dave Kinsman (drums), the band blended folk, rock, and bluegrass before embracing a more daring psychedelic sound.After Judy Bradbury's departure and her replacement by Conny Devanney, the band recorded their sole album, Flashes, produced by Tom Wilson (The Velvet Underground, Simon & Garfunkel), released in 1968 on ABC Records.Unfortunately, limited distribution and insufficient promotion prevented the album from reaching a wide audience, despite notable radio airplay and a dedicated fan base. Ill Wind disbanded in 1968, but their influence endures, and Flashes is now regarded as a gem of American psychedelic rock.
