Paul Valdemar Horsdal, plus connu sous le nom de Valdy, est un auteur-compositeur-interprète canadien né en 1945 à Ottawa. Figure emblématique de la scène folk canadienne, il se fait connaître au début des années 1970 par sa plume sensible et sa présence scénique chaleureuse. Issu d’une famille aux racines artistiques et académiques, il grandit entre musique classique et révolte folk. Après quelques expériences dans des groupes locaux, Valdy s’oriente vers une carrière solo, développant un style sincère, rural et profondément humain. Son premier album Country Man, paru en 1972, rencontre un franc succès au Canada, notamment grâce au titre phare « Rock and Roll Song ». L'album mêle storytelling, influences country, et une ambiance intimiste. Valdy devient alors une voix importante du mouvement folk canadien, parcourant les routes en troubadour moderne.

Paul Valdemar Horsdal, known professionally as Valdy, is a Canadian folk singer-songwriter born in 1945 in Ottawa. A key figure in the Canadian folk scene, Valdy rose to prominence in the early 1970s with his heartfelt songwriting and engaging live performances. Growing up in a family with strong artistic and academic roots, he was influenced by both classical music and the folk revival. After stints in various bands, Valdy pursued a solo career, carving out a sound that combined down-to-earth storytelling, country textures, and personal sincerity. His 1972 debut album Country Man gained significant popularity in Canada, especially for the track “Rock and Roll Song.” It marked him as a prominent voice in Canadian folk, a role he embraced through years of touring and recording.
