Originaire de Birmingham, berceau du heavy metal britannique, Quartz fait partie des groupes fondateurs de la New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM), même s’il débute légèrement avant l’explosion du mouvement. D’abord connu sous le nom de Bandy Legs, le groupe adopte le nom Quartz en 1977 et sort son premier album éponyme cette même année. Produit par Tony Iommi de Black Sabbath, ce disque impose un heavy rock puissant, sombre et mélodique, porté par des riffs tranchants et une section rythmique énergique. Malgré un succès modeste à l’époque, Quartz est aujourd’hui considéré comme un groupe culte, ayant ouvert la voie à des formations plus médiatisées de la NWOBHM comme Saxon ou Iron Maiden.

Hailing from Birmingham, the cradle of British heavy metal, Quartz is a pioneering band that helped lay the groundwork for the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM), even though their debut predated the movement's boom. Formerly known as Bandy Legs, the band rebranded as Quartz in 1977 and released their self-titled debut, produced by Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi. The album features a raw and melodic heavy rock sound with powerful guitar riffs and driving rhythms. Though not widely recognized at the time, Quartz has since earned a cult status among metal enthusiasts and is acknowledged as an important precursor to bands like Saxon and Iron Maiden.
