Sorti en 1978, ce second et dernier album studio de Ram Jam poursuit dans la veine hard rock percutante qui a fait le succès du groupe. Plus structuré que le premier opus, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Ram (clin d’œil ironique au roman de James Joyce) affiche une production plus aboutie et un jeu d’ensemble renforcé. L’album propose des titres énergiques et accrocheurs, sans toutefois retrouver l’impact populaire de “Black Betty”. Malgré sa qualité, le groupe se dissoudra peu après, laissant derrière lui ce disque culte pour les amateurs de heavy rock des seventies.

Released in 1978, this second and final studio album from Ram Jam retains the band’s trademark hard-hitting rock sound, while showing more structure and refinement than their debut. The album title humorously references James Joyce’s novel. With tighter arrangements and solid performances throughout, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Ramdelivers punchy tracks, though it didn’t replicate the commercial success of “Black Betty”. The band disbanded shortly after, but the album remains a cult favorite among 70s hard rock fans.
