Après une pause et plusieurs changements de formation, Back and Fourth marque le grand retour de la formation originale de Lindisfarne en 1978. Le titre joue d’ailleurs sur ce jeu de mots : « back » pour le retour, et « fourth » car il s'agit de leur quatrième album studio avec le line-up classique. Produit par Gus Dudgeon (notamment connu pour son travail avec Elton John), l’album bénéficie d’une production très léchée. On y retrouve le mélange de folk, de rock et de pop qui a fait la marque du groupe, avec des morceaux comme Run for Home, qui rencontre un beau succès commercial et offre à Lindisfarne un regain de popularité.

After a hiatus and several lineup changes, Back and Fourth marked the triumphant return of Lindisfarne's original lineup in 1978. The title is a play on words: "back" for their comeback, and "fourth" for their fourth studio album with the classic lineup. Produced by Gus Dudgeon (known for his work with Elton John), the album features a polished production. Lindisfarne’s trademark blend of folk, rock, and pop shines through, with tracks like Run for Home becoming a commercial hit and reigniting the band’s popularity.
