La Clave was an American band founded in San Francisco in the early 1970s, led by musicians of Latin-American heritage. Their only album, The Ghetto, delivers a brilliant fusion of funk, soul, and Afro-Cuban rhythms, with touches of jazz and psychedelia. Driven by exhilarating percussion and a powerful horn section, La Clave perfectly embodies the musical crossovers flourishing on the West Coast at the time. Though initially overlooked, the album has since gained cult status among fans of Latin funk and rare groove.
