Sorti en 1969, Halfbreed est le premier album du Keef Hartley Band, fondé par l’ancien batteur de John Mayall. Dès ce coup d’essai, le groupe frappe fort avec un blues-rock cuivré, énergique et parfois jazzy. L’album se distingue par ses dialogues parlés (notamment l’intro « Sacked », où Hartley se fait virer par Mayall), son groove puissant et son instrumentation sophistiquée. Enregistré à Londres, Halfbreed fut bien accueilli par la critique et reste considéré comme l’un des meilleurs disques de blues rock britannique de la fin des années 1960.

It opens with a mock conversation where Mayall "fires" Hartley, setting a humorous but rebellious tone. Critically acclaimed, Halfbreed cemented Hartley's place in the British blues scene and gained attention in the U.S. following a Woodstock performance.
