Released in 1972, Passage marks a significant turning point in Bloodrock's career. Following the departure of singer Jim Rutledge and guitarist Lee Pickens, the band shifts towards a more progressive and sophisticated sound, largely abandoning its hard rock roots. Under the growing influence of Stephen Hill (keyboards) and Warren Ham (flute, saxophone, vocals), Passage features complex compositions, elaborate arrangements, and more introspective moods. Less commercial but artistically ambitious, the album divided early fans but attracted progressive rock enthusiasts of the 70s.
