Mason est un groupe américain obscur ayant laissé derrière lui un unique album, Harbour, sorti en 1971 sur le label Ampex. Le groupe évolue dans un registre rock rural aux teintes folk et psychédéliques, dans la veine des formations américaines du tournant des années 70. L’album combine harmonies vocales soignées, guitares acoustiques et électriques, et touches de clavier dans une atmosphère douce-amère. Malgré une distribution confidentielle à l'époque, Harbour a gagné un statut culte auprès des collectionneurs de raretés américaines psych/folk rock.

Mason se produisait dans la rue et dans des clubs comme d'autres groupes le faisaient, notamment ceux de Bruce Hornsby, Bruce Springsteen (Steel Mill) ou Lynyrd Skynyrd. Toutefois, Mason était le seul de cette époque (1971) à avoir effectivement enregistré et publié un LP. Morgan Hampton jouait du piano et chantait; mais son rythme impeccable et sa conduite à la batterie ont mis Mason à part de la plupart des batteurs de R &B de cette époque. Steve Arcese avait une voix unique qui lui a permis de d'explorer toutes les facettes du R&B. Sa virtuosité à l'orgue Hammond B3 a fait sa réputation du haut et en bas de la côte Est.

Mason was a little-known American band that released one self-titled album, Harbour, in 1971 on the Ampex label. The group blended rural rock, folk, and light psychedelia, with strong vocal harmonies, acoustic/electric guitar interplay, and soft keyboard textures. Although the album saw limited circulation upon release, it has since achieved cult status among collectors of obscure American psych-folk rock from the early '70s.

Mason would be playing across the street from other clubs that were featuring bands headed up by Bruce Hornsby. Bruce Springsteen (Steel Mill), and Lynyrd Skynyrd. However, Mason was the only band at this time (1971) to actually have recorded and released an LP. Morgan Hampton played both piano and sang; but his impeccable beat and drive on drums set Mason apart from most of the R&B drummers of this time. Steve Arcese had the vocal uniqueness which drew from his deep roots in classic R&B His virtuosity on the B3 Hammond organ drove walls of sound up and down the East coast.
