Nazz - Nazz (1968)

Nazz was an American rock and roll band formed in Philadelphia in 1967. Author of three albums (Nazz (1968), Nazz Nazz (1969) and Nazz III (1970), appeared straight in Rhino), the group is part some of these forgotten the great rock'n'roll decade, and this is not the Nuggets have remedied the problem. The group name, taken from a song of the Yardbirds ( 'The Nazz Are Blue'), already says a lot of what the Nazz: sixties super group. However, the influences are many in the band's music: there obviously is a huge influence of the British Invasion, the scene ala Jimi Hendrix, but also glam rock (so Thunders), the power pop (so Big Star), seventies groups. Nazz, who has never confined to the message of the majors that imposed at the time that artists are limited to a single genre in order to create a strong identity, makes the perfect connection between the two eras. If we can now paste the psych rock label in the music of Nazz, it is actually difficult to do without saying that one passes then next to a large part of what made this group. A disruptive will certainly live all creations of Nazz, but we must raise how Nazz was also a group in search of hits, one of those that we listen when you want to easily riff and explosives.

Nazz était un groupe de rock'n'roll américain formé à Philadelphie en 1967. Auteur de trois albums Nazz (1968), Nazz Nazz (1969) et Nazz III (1970), tout trois parus chez Rhino, le groupe fait partie de ces quelques oubliés de la grande décennie rock'n'roll, et ce n'est pas les Nuggets qui ont remédié au problème. Le nom du groupe, tiré d'une chanson des Yardbirds ('The Nazz Are Blue'), dit déjà beaucoup de ce que sont les Nazz : un groupe super sixties. Pourtant, les influences se font nombreuses dans la musique du groupe : on y trouve bien évidemment une énorme influence de la British Invasion, de la scène Jimi Hendrix, mais aussi du glam rock (façon Thunders), de la power pop (façon Big Star), groupes seventies. Nazz, qui ne s'est jamais cantonné au message des majors qui imposaient à l'époque que les artistes se limitent à un seul et unique genre dans le but de créer une identité forte, fait la parfaite liaison entre les deux époques. Si l'on peut aujourd'hui coller l'étiquette de psych rock à la musique de Nazz, il est en réalité difficile de le faire sans se dire que l'on passe alors à côté d'une large partie de ce qui a fait ce groupe. Une volonté disruptive habite certes l'ensemble des créations de Nazz, mais il faut soulever à quel point Nazz était également un groupe à la recherche de hits, un de ceux que l'on écoute lorsque l'on a envie de riff faciles et explosifs.
