Groupe australien mythique formé à Sydney en 1964, The Easybeats fut le fer de lance du rock australien des sixties, popularisé par leur tube mondial Friday on My Mind (1966). Après leur ascension fulgurante, ils s’installent à Londres et signent avec Albert Productions et United Artists. Leur quatrième album, Vigil, paraît en 1968 dans un contexte agité : sessions multiples, tensions internes, pressions du label… Le résultat est un album inégal mais fascinant, oscillant entre beat psychédélique, ballades orchestrées et pop baroque. On y retrouve l’énergie brute des débuts, mêlée à des arrangements plus sophistiqués. Il marque aussi l’un des derniers projets du tandem Harry Vanda / George Young avant leur future reconversion comme producteurs de renom.

Formed in Sydney in 1964, The Easybeats were Australia's premier '60s rock band, achieving global fame with Friday on My Mind. After relocating to London, they recorded Vigil (1968), a complex and eclectic album that showcases their evolution from beat-pop to a more mature, orchestrated psych-pop sound. Produced under turbulent circumstances, Vigilblends catchy riffs, lush string arrangements, and psychedelic flourishes. Despite its uneven nature, the album captures the restless creativity of Vanda & Young, foreshadowing their later success as producers for AC/DC and others.
