Originaire du sud de l’Angleterre, Tangerine Peel est l’un de ces groupes obscurs de la scène pop britannique des sixties qui ont flirté avec la célébrité sans jamais vraiment l’atteindre. Formé autour du chanteur et compositeur Mike Chapman — futur producteur de Blondie, The Knack ou Suzi Quatro — le groupe livre en 1970 Soft Delights, un unique album mêlant pop psychédélique, glam embryonnaire et orchestrations baroques. Riche en harmonies vocales, claviers chatoyants et mélodies acidulées, ce disque s’inscrit dans la lignée de groupes comme The Idle Race, Grapefruit ou The Move. Hailing from southern England, Tangerine Peel was one of the lesser-known acts of the British psychedelic pop scene of the late 60s. Centered around songwriter and future hit producer Mike Chapman, the band released their sole LP Soft Delights in 1970. The album blends sunshine pop, light psych, proto-glam touches, and orchestral arrangements, drawing comparisons to The Move, Grapefruit, or The Idle Race. With its sugary harmonies, whimsical lyrics and lush instrumentation, Soft Delights remains a hidden gem for fans of vintage British psych-pop.
