Après le succès phénoménal de "A Whiter Shade of Pale" et un premier album éponyme en 1967, Procol Harum revient en 1968 avec "Shine On Brightly", un opus audacieux qui ancre définitivement le groupe dans la mouvance progressive naissante. Sous la plume poétique de Keith Reid, et guidé par la voix grave et l’orgue de Gary Brooker, l’album repousse les limites du rock psychédélique. La pièce maîtresse, "In Held ’Twas in I", une suite de près de 17 minutes, préfigure les grandes fresques du rock progressif des années 70.

Following the massive success of "A Whiter Shade of Pale" and their 1967 debut album, Procol Harum released "Shine On Brightly" in 1968. This second studio album marked a stylistic leap into early progressive rock. The band's poetic lyricist Keith Reid weaves cryptic verses while Gary Brooker’s deep vocals and commanding Hammond organ define the soundscape. The album’s standout track, the 17-minute suite "In Held ’Twas in I," is regarded as one of the earliest examples of the progressive rock epic.
