Avant de fonder le groupe Nazz, Todd Rundgren fit ses premières armes dans la formation psyché-blues Woody’s Truck Stop, fondée à Wildwood (New Jersey). Emmené par le batteur Bob Radeloff et le guitariste Alan Miller, le groupe adopte d’abord Rundgren pour ses talents de guitariste slide. Si l’un veut garder l’orientation blues du combo, l’autre rêve déjà d’expérimentations pop-rock façon Beatles ou Who. Ce désaccord pousse Rundgren à quitter le groupe en mai 1967. Privée de son membre le plus iconoclaste, la formation se restructure et enregistre à New York son unique album, sorti début 1969 chez Smash Records. Un disque teinté de blues-rock psychédélique, parfois rugueux, souvent lyrique, mais passé inaperçu à sa sortie. L’histoire du groupe s’achève peu après dans l’anonymat.

Before creating Nazz, Todd Rundgren was involved with Woody’s Truck Stop, a blues-psych outfit formed in Wildwood, NJ. The band, led by drummer Bob Radeloff and guitarist Alan Miller, initially embraced Rundgren for his striking slide guitar skills. Internal tensions soon grew: while Miller wanted to remain rooted in blues, Rundgren leaned toward experimental British-inspired psychedelia. Following a chaotic concert in May 1967, Rundgren left to pursue his own vision. The reformed band recorded a self-titled LP at Regent Sound Studios (NY), released in early 1969 by Smash Records. Though the album blends raw blues-rock and psychedelic flourishes with flair, it failed commercially and the group soon vanished from the scene.
