Le Steve Miller Band, fondé à San Francisco en 1966 par le guitariste et chanteur Steve Miller, s’inscrit dans la mouvance psychédélique de la côte Ouest. Entouré de musiciens comme Boz Scaggs (guitare, chant), Lonnie Turner(basse) et Tim Davis (batterie), Miller propose une musique à la croisée du blues, du rock psychédélique et du rhythm and blues. Leur premier album Children of the Future (1968), enregistré à Londres, est marqué par une production raffinée et une ambiance planante typique de son époque, préfigurant déjà les sonorités plus bluesy et FM du groupe dans les années 1970.

Their debut album Children of the Future (1968), recorded in London, showcases a blend of blues, psychedelic rock, and soulful grooves. Influenced by the era’s exploratory spirit, the record is both experimental and melodic, setting the stage for the band's commercial success in the following decade.
