Sorti en 1969 sur le label Atlantic Records, Banchee est le premier album du groupe américain éponyme originaire de Brooklyn, New York. Le groupe, formé à partir des membres du groupe garage The Peepl, était composé de Peter Alongi (guitare solo, chant), Jose Miguel DeJesus (guitare rythmique, chant), Michael Gregory Marino (basse, chant) et Victor William DiGilio (batterie). Leur musique mêle hard rock et rock psychédélique, avec des influences de groupes comme Santana et Vanilla Fudge. L'album se distingue par l'utilisation marquée de la guitare fuzz et des harmonies vocales, offrant une ambiance typique du rock des années 60. Malgré une production soignée, l'album n'a pas rencontré un succès commercial significatif, ce qui a conduit à la dissolution du groupe après un deuxième album en 1971.
