The Rats est un groupe italien formé au début des années 70 à Milan. Influencés par le glam rock britannique de T. Rex, David Bowie ou encore Slade, ils adoptent rapidement une esthétique provocante et électrique. Mais à la différence de leurs modèles anglais, The Rats injectent dans leur musique une touche garage rock à l’ancienne et une énergie brute héritée des beat bands italiens des années 60.
Enregistré en 1974 et publié sur le petit label Bla Bla Records, First Long Play Record est un album surprenant, flamboyant et abrasif. Chanté en anglais avec un accent marqué mais attachant, le disque enchaîne les morceaux glam aux riffs simples, efficaces et saturés, dans une veine proche d’Hanoi Rocks ou des New York Dolls. Mal distribué à l’époque, l’album est aujourd’hui considéré comme un culte underground du glam continental.

The Rats, formed in Milan in the early 1970s, were Italy’s answer to the UK glam explosion. Drawing inspiration from T. Rex, Bowie, and Slade, they fused glittery riffs with raw garage rock energy and a vintage Italian beat-band swagger.
Released in 1974 on the underground Bla Bla Records, First Long Play Record is a fierce, lo-fi glam rock gem sung in English with charmingly accented vocals. With distorted guitars, stomping rhythms, and glam-punk attitude, it echoes the wild spirit of the New York Dolls and early punk. Though virtually unknown outside Italy at the time, the album has since gained cult status among glam and proto-punk collectors.
