Born from the ashes of an ephemeral swedish psychedelic formation claiming the legacy of the pioneers of the late '60s (originally named Gypsy Sons Of Magic), Black Bonzo has finally made a little good in time, now inspired by a proto-hard-progressive scene for the less typical: we often think of , period Demons And Wizards, for this rustic ardor allied to an unstoppable sense of the chorus (the song recalls even strongly that of David Byron) but also at the early Greenslade, for this thick and enveloping organ sound, almost crappy, or even at Grand Funk Railroad, at the turn of one or two hard-hitting titles (on "Jailbait" in particular). There is only a few cracks of vinyl for the trip to be total ...
Né sur les cendres d’une formation suédoise psychédélique éphémère revendiquant l’héritage des pionniers de la fin des années 60 (initialement nommée Gypsy Sons Of Magic), Black Bonzo n’a fait finalement qu’un tout petit bon dans le temps, s’inspirant désormais d’une scène proto-hard-progressive pour le moins typée : on pense souvent à Uriah Heep, période Demons And Wizards, pour cette fougue rustique alliée à un sens imparable du refrain (le chant rappelle même fortement celui de David Byron), mais aussi au Greenslade des débuts, pour ce son d’orgue épais et enveloppant, presque cradingue, voire à Grand Funk Railroad, au détour d’un ou deux titres âprement scandés (sur «Jailbait» en particulier). Il ne manque guère que quelques craquements de vinyle pour que le trip soit total…
