Formé à Londres en 1967, Grapefruit est un groupe britannique de pop psychédélique étroitement lié à The Beatles, et plus particulièrement à George Alexander, alias Alexander Young, frère aîné de George Young (The Easybeats) et des futurs AC/DC Malcolm et Angus. Signé sur Apple Publishing, Grapefruit est l’un des tout premiers groupes produits et soutenus par John Lennon et Paul McCartney. Leur unique album original, Around Grapefruit, paru en 1968, regorge de mélodies acidulées, de ballades baroques et d’élans psyché pop typiques de la scène londonienne. On y retrouve une écriture fine et des arrangements soignés, dans la veine de The Bee Gees, The Zombies ou The Move. Un joyau oublié du Summer of Love britannique.

Formed in London in 1967, Grapefruit was a British psychedelic pop band with strong Beatles connections. Frontman George Alexander (born Alexander Young) was the older brother of George Young (The Easybeats) and uncles Malcolm and Angus Young (AC/DC). Grapefruit was among the first bands promoted by Apple Publishing and received direct encouragement from John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Their debut LP Around Grapefruit (1968) is a collection of catchy psych-pop tunes, baroque harmonies and sunshine melodies, comparable to The Bee Gees, The Move or The Zombies. A hidden treasure of the late-60s British pop scene.
