Sorti en juillet 1969, Stand Up est le deuxième album studio de Jethro Tull et marque un tournant décisif dans la carrière du groupe. C’est le premier disque avec le guitariste Martin Barre, successeur de Mick Abrahams, qui apporte une approche plus variée et moins strictement blues que sur le premier album. Ian Anderson, déjà leader incontesté, développe un style unique mêlant rock, folk et touches de musique classique, avec sa flûte traversière devenue emblématique. L’album se distingue par sa richesse instrumentale, son sens de la mélodie et des compositions qui vont du folk pastoral (Reasons For Waiting) au rock nerveux (A New Day Yesterday), en passant par une reprise inattendue de Bach. L’édition vinyle originale se distinguait par une pochette ouvrante en forme de livre pop-up représentant le groupe.

Released in July 1969, Stand Up is Jethro Tull’s second studio album and a major turning point for the band. It is the first to feature guitarist Martin Barre, replacing Mick Abrahams, bringing a more diverse and less blues-based approach. Ian Anderson, already the clear leader, further developed his distinctive style blending rock, folk, and touches of classical music, with his now-iconic flute playing. The album stands out for its instrumental richness, strong melodies, and varied songwriting, ranging from pastoral folk (Reasons For Waiting) to gritty rock (A New Day Yesterday), including a surprising Bach arrangement. The original vinyl release was notable for its pop-up book-style gatefold sleeve featuring the band members.
