L’Incredible Bongo Band est un projet studio né à l’initiative de Michael Viner, producteur chez MGM Records, qui souhaitait créer une musique instrumentale percutante destinée initialement à la bande-son du film The Thing with Two Heads. Mais c’est avec la sortie de l’album Bongo Rock en 1973 que le groupe entre dans la légende, notamment grâce au morceau « Apache », devenu un pilier de la culture hip-hop, samplé à l’infini depuis les années 1980. Fusion explosive de rock, funk et percussions latines, l’album transcende les genres et offre une énergie rythmique brute, encore redoutablement efficace aujourd’hui.
