Sorti le 18 décembre 1970, T. Rex est le premier album du groupe depuis qu’il a raccourci son nom – auparavant Tyrannosaurus Rex – marquant clairement le virage vers un son plus électrique et rock minimaliste. Enregistré de mai à août aux studios Trident à Londres, l’album illustre l'évolution stylistique de Marc Bolan, passant de son folk psychédélique à un glam-rock naissant.
