Mad Jack est un groupe de southern rock originaire de Syracuse, dans l'État de New York, formé au début des années 1980 par le guitariste et chanteur Lou Kaplan. Déçu par l'orientation glam et commerciale du hard rock à Los Angeles, Kaplan retourne dans le nord-est des États-Unis pour créer une formation fidèle aux racines du rock sudiste. Leur unique album, Straight Up, sorti en 1984, est un concentré de boogie, de riffs acérés et de paroles évoquant la vie de routards, les excès et la liberté. Bien que peu connu à sa sortie, l'album a été réédité en 2023 par RidingEasy Records, permettant à une nouvelle génération de découvrir ce joyau méconnu du rock américain.

Mad Jack was a southern rock band from Syracuse, New York, formed in the early 1980s by guitarist and vocalist Lou Kaplan. Disillusioned by the glam direction of hard rock in Los Angeles, Kaplan returned to upstate New York to assemble a band rooted in the traditions of southern rock. Their sole album, Straight Up, released in 1984, delivers a blend of boogie rhythms, sharp guitar riffs, and lyrics reflecting the life of drifters, indulgence, and freedom. Though it remained under the radar upon release, the album was reissued in 2023 by RidingEasy Records, introducing this hidden gem of American rock to a new audience.
