Formed in Sydney in 1970, Kahvas Jute issued their sole album Wide Open in January 1971 on Infinity Records. The lineup featured Dennis Wilson (guitar, vocals), Tim Gaze (lead guitar, vocals), Bob Daisley (bass, vocals), and Dannie Davidson (drums). Celebrated for its dual-guitar attack, melodic depth, and tight rhythm section, Wide Open is recognized as one of Australia's premier late‑60s/early‑70s psychedelic‑prog albums.
Wide Open is a consummate example of underground psychedelic hard rock at its most inventive and powerful expression. As the title suggests, Wide Open is a free-flowing and expansive musical blending of rock, blues and jazz, with a touch of acid folk thrown in for good measure. It's a very English-influenced sound but far from being a slavish copy of the british model, the album bears a uniquely Australia flavor.
