Syd Barrett - The Madcap Laughs (1970)

The Madcap Laughs, released in 1970, is the first solo album of Syd Barrett after it was excluded from Pink Floyd in April 1968. The recording began in 1968 but most of the recording sessions unfolded April to July 1969, for certain with his old cronies Pink Floyd's David Gilmour and Roger Waters (end 1969 sessions). Three members of Soft Machine also gave a hand, Mike Ratledge the organ, Hugh Hopper on bass and Robert Wyatt on drums. It also shared the battery with Jerry Shirley of Humble Pie and William Willie Wilson. The Madcap Laughs, was released in January 1970 in the United States. Upon its release, the success was not at the rendezvous, the album placed in the fortieth place in the ranking of best sellers in the UK and do not even entering the US ranking.

Lors de sa sortie, le succès ne fut pas au rendez-vous, l'album se plaçant à la quarantième place du classement des meilleures ventes au Royaume-Uni et n'entrant même pas dans le classement américain.
