Fondé par les frères Pat et Lolly Vegas, d’origine amérindienne (Yaqui et Shoshone), Redbone revendique dès ses débuts une identité musicale et culturelle forte. Après un premier album remarqué en 1970, le groupe enchaîne la même année avec Potlatch, un disque plus affirmé où se mêlent rock psychédélique, funk, blues et racines tribales. L’album emprunte son titre à une cérémonie de dons pratiquée par les peuples autochtones du Nord-Ouest américain, traduisant l’esprit de partage et de fierté culturelle du groupe. Avec ses riffs hypnotiques, ses percussions tribales et son groove envoûtant, Potlatch impose un son unique à la croisée de plusieurs mondes.

Potlach est le second opus de Redbone, un quatuor d'amérindiens, paru en 1970. Le rythme de leurs conpositions est à la fois une pulsation de tambour de guerre indiens et incroyablement souple et jazzy. La rythmique est assurée par Pete de Poe le batteur et Pat Vegas le bassiste et pousse au cul en permanence le guitariste soliste et chanteur principal Lolly Vegas. Enfin Tony Bellamy, le guitariste rythmique, envoie des riffs souples et incandescents en permanence derrière le soliste. Le genre de musique tout à fait pionnière au début des 70's, avec Santana. Le foisonnement des rythme y est absolument infernal. Le premier opus de ce groupe (paru en 1969) est également excellent.

Formed by Native American brothers Pat and Lolly Vegas (of Yaqui and Shoshone descent), Redbone brought Indigenous identity and heritage to the forefront of American rock. Their second release, Potlatch (1970), builds on their debut with a deeper blend of psychedelic rock, funk, blues, and tribal rhythms. The album’s title references a traditional gift-giving ceremony of Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest – reflecting the band's cultural pride and spirit of generosity. With hypnotic riffs, layered percussion, and a richly textured groove, Potlatch delivers a sound that is distinctly Redbone: soulful, defiant, and deeply original.

Potlatch is the second album recorded by Redbone, a Native American quartet, published in 1970. The pace of their compositions is both a pulsating Indian war drum and incredibly soft and jazzy. The rhythm is provided by Pete Poe drummer and bassist Pat Vegas and grows continuously ass lead guitarist and lead singer Lolly Vegas. Finally Tony Bellamy, rhythm guitarist, and sends soft incandescent riffs continuously behind the soloist. The kind of music quite a pioneer in the early 70's, with Santana. The profusion of rhythm is absolutely hellish. The first installment of this group (published in 1969) is also excellent.
