Stray - Stray (1970)

Formed in London in the district of Shepherds Bush, as the Who, in 1966, the group of Del Bromham on guitar, Steve Gadd on vocals, Richard Cole on drums, and Garry Giles on bass plays in high school. The four are school buddies and groups like mods, they play a repertoire of covers and soul rythm'n'blues. With the arrival of psychedelic music, Stray evolves into this very fashionable style. The sounds are increasing, and with the arrival of the nascent hard rock, the quartet finds its way. They sign the Transatlantic label, and recorded their first album in 1970. The four members have barely eighteen. The hard-rock landscape has evolved, with no less than three tenors like: Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. Stray will develop a strange mixture of hard sounds with wild guitar and garage-blues Bromham, and often fast rhythm. The sound of Stray is actually a psychedelic hard rock, with reminiscences of folk-blues and soul. The securities used to develop the skill already honest musicians. But above all, know Stray create atmospheres by changing the listener universe within each song.

Les quatre sont copains d’école, et comme les groupes mods, ils jouent un répertoire de reprises soul et rythm’n’blues. Avec l’arrivée de la musique psychédélique, Stray évolue vers ce style très en vogue. Les sons s’alourdissent, et avec l’arrivée du hard-rock naissant, le quatuor trouve sa voie. Ils signent avec le label Transatlantic, et enregistrent leur premier album éponyme en 1970. Les quatre membres ont à peine dix-huit ans. Le paysage hard-rock a déjà bien évolué, avec pas moins de trois ténors du genre : Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, et Black Sabbath.
Stray va développer une étrange mixture de sons hard, avec la guitare sauvage et garage-blues de Bromham, et des rythmiques souvent rapides. Le son de Stray est en fait un hard-rock psychédélique, avec des réminiscences de folk-blues et de soul. Les titres permettent de développer l’habileté déjà honnête des musiciens. Mais surtout, Stray sait créer des atmosphères en changeant l’auditeur d’univers au sein même de chaque morceau.
