Released in 1969, Truly Fine Citizen is Moby Grape’s fourth studio album, born amid internal strife and lineup changes. With Skip Spence gone and label conflicts mounting, the band recorded this album in just three days under the guidance of producer Bob Johnston (known for his work with Dylan). The record shifts toward a more straightforward, country-tinged rock sound, moving away from their earlier psychedelic textures. Though less ambitious, it’s an earnest effort that reflects a band trying to reclaim its artistic core.
