King Crimson au bord de l'explosion explore à nouveau les mélodies présentes dans le premier album, cette impression est nettement perceptible à l'écoute du titre 'In the Wake of Poseidon'. Pourtant cet album n'est pas seulement un dérivé de sons déjà présents. On y retrouve un rock'n'roll déjanté chanté par Greg Lake : 'Cat Food' et une des plus belles ballades du groupe : 'Cadence and Cascade' sur laquelle officie Gordon Haskell au chant. 'Pictures of a City' même s'il rappelle quelque peu certains morceaux du premier album développe une mélodie propre. Les thèmes 'Peace' gentiment pop, doucement sussurés donnent une cohésion incroyable à l'oeuvre.

Paru en mai 1970, In The Wake Of Poseidon est le second album de King Crimson. Il s’inscrit dans la continuité du légendaire In The Court of the Crimson King (1969), avec des structures similaires et un mélange de rock progressif, de jazz et de musique contemporaine. Malgré le départ de Greg Lake et d'autres membres fondateurs, Robert Fripp maintient le cap avec un line-up renouvelé, où figure notamment le jeune chanteur Gordon Haskell. L’œuvre explore des paysages sonores complexes, poétiques et parfois chaotiques, oscillant entre douceur mélodique et tension dissonante.

Despite significant lineup changes, Robert Fripp leads the project with renewed vision, joined by Gordon Haskell on vocals and contributions from Mel Collins and Keith Tippett. The album showcases Crimson’s growing sonic palette and maintains their reputation for challenging, cerebral music.
