N茅 de l’effervescence artistique de la fin des ann茅es 1960 脿 l’universit茅 de Sussex, Affinity est un groupe britannique aux fronti猫res du jazz-rock, du psych茅d茅lisme et du progressif. Form茅 autour de la charismatique chanteuse Linda Hoyle et du clavi茅riste Lynton Naiff, le groupe tire son nom d’un album d’Oscar Peterson. En 1970, ils publient leur unique album 茅ponyme sous le label Vertigo, connu pour son esth茅tique musicale ambitieuse. Cet opus illustre une fusion 茅l茅gante entre improvisations jazzy, structures complexes et 茅motion brute, port茅e par la voix singuli猫re et puissante de Hoyle. L’艙uvre m锚le jazz, prog, folk et blues, riche en arrangements de cuivres orchestr茅s par John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), autour d’une dominante d’orgue Hammond. Malgr茅 un faible 茅cho commercial 脿 sa sortie, l’album est aujourd’hui reconnu comme une perle rare du rock progressif britannique.

Formed in the late 1960s at Sussex University, Affinity emerged as a British progressive rock band with strong jazz-rock influences. The group, fronted by powerful vocalist Linda Hoyle and keyboardist Lynton Naiff, took its name from a jazz album by Oscar Peterson. Their only studio album, Affinity (1970), released on the Vertigo label, showcases a refined blend of jazz improvisation, psychedelic rock, and progressive ambition. It blends jazz, prog, blues and folk, with brass arrangements by John Paul Jones and a Hammond‑heavy sound. Though not a commercial success at the time, the record has since gained cult status among collectors and connoisseurs of 70s progressive music.
