Grand Funk is an ambitious band, who immediately wanted to trace his route away from the high energy scene in Detroit powerhouse to tacky and violent groups. Grand Funk wants to play in the light, go on radio convertibles launched to 120 miles on major highways. It is an outside music, definitely. This eponymous album is not their first record as is often believed. There was a first album, the very medium On Time, the same year. Later, at 70, there will be excellent Closer to Home. For now, here is a wonderful collection of funky hard rock with prominent bass and roaring guitars. US teenager while growing up in the 70's could not escape them, as Angliches could not escape the T-Rex, Slade and Sweet. Their uninhibited hard was the perfect antidote to the glam head taken or European prog, and the delusions of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, too impenetrable for some US (which also saw a dim view of some aspects too occult their music). Here therefore a good basic heavy rock that does not take the head but still mind-blowing. Besides, good advice to listen to Grand Funk so buy a convertible Chevrolet, paint there in red with a white stripe on the side, install carpet on the wheel and roll, youth! (Pub Paper Job ...).
Grand Funk est un groupe ambitieux, qui a d’emblée voulu tracer sa route loin de la scène high energy de Detroit, véritable vivier à groupes poisseux et violents. Grand Funk veut jouer dans la lumière, passer sur les radios des cabriolets lancés à 120 miles sur les grands highways. C’est une musique d’extérieur, définitivement. Cet album éponyme n’est pas leur premier disque comme on le croit souvent. Il y a eu un premier album, le très moyen On Time, la même année. Plus tard, en 70, il y aura l’excellent Closer to Home. Pour l’heure, voici un formidable recueil de hard rock funky aux basses proéminentes et aux guitares rugissantes. Tout teenager US ayant grandi dans les 70’s ne pouvait leur échapper, comme les angliches ne pouvaient échapper à T-Rex, Slade et Sweet. Leur hard décomplexé était l’antidote idéal aux prises de tête du glam ou du prog européen, ainsi qu’aux délires de Led Zeppelin et Black Sabbath, trop impénétrables pour certains américains (qui voyaient aussi d’un mauvais œil certains aspects par trop occultes de leur musique). Ici donc un heavy rock bien basique qui ne se prend pas la tête mais qui décoiffe quand même. D'ailleurs, un bon conseil pour écouter Grand Funk achetez donc une Chevrolet décapotable, peignez-là en rouge avec une bande blanche sur le côté, installez de la moquette sur le volant, et roulez, jeunesse ! (pub du papier Job ...).
