Stonerider - Hologram (2016)

Where ends the tribute and begins copying? How to ignore that these Americans were probably a little too sucked the breasts of the 70, including those that are flowing in a floydien juice still inexhaustible. Just listen to 'Your Chains' whose gradual awakening can hardly fail to mention 'Shine On Your Crazy Diamond' or the title track that seems to have escaped from "Dark Side Of The Moon". Still, the compositions of the group carried a canvas of a wealth insolent and a class that is equally important. The sequence of 'Your Chains' and 'Undertow', which put together are around twenty minutes, testifies by weaving a pulsating frame suffused with fluffy scent of rare beauty. Voluble, organ Noah Pine stretches juicy hanging which mates with the stratospheric six-string Matt Tanner whose song is the brush of a veiled emotion of bitterness. When they are shorter, the titles are meant more catchy but no less captivating, like 'Sleepwalking Awake' and 'Elevator Operator'. Listen carefully, this Hologram is not a mirage.

Où termine l'hommage et où commence la copie ?
Comment ignorer en effet que ces Américains ont sans doute un peu trop tété les mamelles des années 70, notamment celles qui font couler à flot un jus floydien toujours aussi intarissable. Il suffit d'écouter 'Your Chains' dont l'éveil progressif peut difficilement ne pas évoquer 'Shine On Your Crazy Diamond' ou bien le titre éponyme qui semble s'être échappé de "Dark Side Of The Moon" .
Toujours est-il que les compositions du groupe déroulent un canevas d'une richesse insolente et d'une classe qui l'est tout autant. L'enchaînement de 'Your Chains' et de 'Undertow', qui mis bout à bout avoisinent  les vingt minutes, en témoigne en tissant une trame pulsative nimbée d'effluves duveteuses d'une rare beauté. Volubile, l'orgue de Noah Pine étire une tenture juteuse qui s'accouple avec la six-cordes stratosphérique de Matt Tanner dont le chant est le pinceau d'une émotion voilée d'amertume. Quand ils sont plus courts, les titres se veulent plus accrocheurs mais non moins envoûtants, tels que 'Sleepwalking Awake' et 'Elevator Operator'.

Tendez bien l'oreille, cet Hologram n'est pas un mirage ...
