Formé en 1968 à Londres, Uriel réunit quatre jeunes musiciens prometteurs : Steve Hillage (guitare), Dave Stewart(claviers), Mont Campbell (basse, chant) et Clive Brooks (batterie). Après la dissolution du groupe initial, ils enregistrent sous le nom Arzachel un unique album éponyme en 1969. Ce disque, à la croisée du rock psychédélique et du blues rock, se distingue par ses longues improvisations, ses ambiances planantes et une approche expérimentale annonçant le rock progressif. Bien que confidentiel à sa sortie, il est aujourd’hui considéré comme un trésor culte pour les amateurs de psychédélique britannique.

Formed in 1968 in London, Uriel brought together four promising young musicians: Steve Hillage (guitar), Dave Stewart (keyboards), Mont Campbell (bass, vocals) and Clive Brooks (drums). After the band’s initial breakup, they regrouped under the name Arzachel to record their only self-titled album in 1969. Blending psychedelic rock and blues rock, the record features extended improvisations, atmospheric passages and experimental touches that foreshadow progressive rock. Initially obscure, it is now hailed as a cult gem of British psychedelia.
