Under pressure from Warner after an excellent first album had sold poorly, Little Feat Lowell George had to react. This is done with a Sailin 'Shoes devilishly good. To understand the transformation, shedding rather, it is an excellent means to compare the two versions of "Willin ', you know the song that is said to have caused the dismissal of Lowell in the Mothers of Invention Frank Zappa speaking of dope because what Frank did not tolerate, there are other versions but it holds the rope, well it turns out that 'Willin' is precisely this on the eponymous 1971 and Sailin 'Shoes. Sous pression de la Warner après un excellent premier album qui s'était très mal vendu, le Little Feat de Lowell George se devait de réagir. C'est chose faite avec un Sailin' Shoes diaboliquement bon.
Pour comprendre la transformation, la mue plutôt, il y a un excellent moyen, comparer les deux versions de 'Willin', vous savez la chanson dont on dit qu'elle a causé le renvoi de Lowell de chez les Mothers of Invention de Frank Zappa parce que parlant de dope ce que Frank ne tolérait pas, y a d'autres versions mais celle-ci tient la corde, et bien il se trouve que 'Willin' est justement présente sur l'éponyme de 1971 et sur Sailin' Shoes. L'aimable country music des vertes prairies a été sérieusement boostée par une approche plus (country) rock plus "tight" qui, loin de trahir la composition, l'améliore. Hé bien, c'est absolument symptomatique d'une approche d'ensemble où, sans aucunement perdre son petit côté "à la marge", on n'est pas passé chez Zappa pour rien !, le quatuor devient efficace, et Lowell George un vocaliste et leader en pleine confiance de ses moyens et délivrant, du coup, une performance remarquable.
