Originaire de Virginie, le groupe Polyphony ne publia qu’un seul album : Without Introduction, en 1971. Cet ovni musical navigue entre rock progressif symphonique, jazz-rock et psychédélisme savant. Fortement influencé par Emerson, Lake & Palmer ou Yes, Polyphony intègre également une touche américaine propre, aux accents jazzy et bluesy, portée par l’orgue Hammond omniprésent et les envolées instrumentales ambitieuses. Peu diffusé à sa sortie, l’album a acquis au fil des décennies un statut culte auprès des amateurs de prog obscur et virtuose.

Polyphony was a short-lived progressive rock band from Virginia, USA. Their lone album, Without Introduction, released in 1971 on Elektra, blends symphonic rock with jazz touches and psychedelic flourishes. Echoes of ELP, The Nice, and early Genesis abound, but the band’s American identity brings a rawer edge. Dominated by swirling Hammond organ, shifting time signatures, and extended instrumental passages, this obscure gem has since earned a cult following among prog rock enthusiasts.
