Issu des cendres du groupe Touch, Stepson est une formation américaine éphémère qui livre en 1974 un unique album éponyme sur ABC Records. Entre hard rock percutant, boogie nerveux et touches soul, le disque brille par l’énergie brute de ses musiciens et la voix puissante de Jeffrey Hawks. Joey Newman (alias Vern Kjellberg) signe des riffs tranchants, bien appuyés par une section rythmique solide. Quelques invités de marque, comme Jeff Simmons ou Jimmy "Scooter" Greenspoon (Three Dog Night), enrichissent la texture sonore. Malgré sa qualité, Stepson est resté dans l’ombre, devenant avec le temps une rareté recherchée par les amateurs de rock musclé et authentique des seventies.

🇬🇧 Biography (English)

Stepson was a short-lived American hard rock band that rose from the ashes of psychedelic outfit Touch. Their lone self-titled LP, released in 1974 on ABC Records, delivers a gritty, energetic blend of bluesy hard rock and boogie grooves. Fronted by powerhouse vocalist Jeffrey Hawks and driven by Joey Newman’s razor-sharp guitar work, the album features strong musicianship and guest appearances from Jeff Simmons (harp) and Jimmy Greenspoon (organist for Three Dog Night). Though it failed to break into the mainstream, Stepson has since become a hidden gem for collectors of American '70s rock.
