Formé en 1986 dans le New Jersey, Skid Row s’impose rapidement sur la scène hard rock américaine grâce à son énergie brute et au charisme de son chanteur Sebastian Bach. Repérés par Jon Bon Jovi, ils décrochent un contrat avec Atlantic Records et enregistrent leur premier album avec le producteur Michael Wagener.
Sorti en janvier 1989, l’album connaît un succès fulgurant grâce à des titres emblématiques comme « Youth Gone Wild », « 18 and Life » ou « I Remember You ». L’album atteint le Top 10 des ventes aux États-Unis et devient quintuple disque de platine.
