Happy The Man - Crafty Hands (1978)

Happy The Man is an American progressive rock band. Crafty Hands is their second album. From the first track, there are the ingredients of musical recipe of the group with a melodic progressive rock with a lot of research. Felted to follow along with, among others, acoustic guitar framed here by the organ. We'll stay quiet for a third movement which we perceive hints of the great Genesis. Back thereafter technical, with a composition of Whitaker combining progressive, jazz and fusion. Genesis of the ghost comes back in 'Wind Up Doll Day Wind', sung alone title, where you can enjoy the hushed voice of Stanley Whitaker, reminding us of a certain Gabriel. atmospheric mood to follow with the appearance of the flute, and, thanks to Frank Wyatt. The last two compositions signed Watkins, bring one hand, a jazz-rock hopping key and, secondly, a moment of calm with a beautiful melodic ballad.

Dès le premier titre, on retrouve les ingrédients de la recette musicale du groupe avec un rock-progressif mélodique présentant beaucoup de recherches. Ambiance feutrée pour suivre avec, entre autres, de la guitare acoustique encadrée ici par les orgues. On restera au calme pour un troisième mouvement où l'on percevra des relents du grand Genesis. Retour au technique par la suite, avec une composition de Whitaker alliant progressif, jazz et fusion. Le fantôme de Genesis revient encore dans 'Wind Up Doll Day Wind', seul titre chanté, où l'on pourra apprécier la voix feutrée de Stanley Whitaker, nous rappelant un certain Gabriel. Ambiance atmosphérique pour suivre avec l'apparition de la flûte, et ce, grâce à Frank Wyatt. Les deux dernières compositions, signées Watkins, apporteront d'une part une touche de jazz-rock sautillant et, d'autre part, un moment d'apaisement avec une belle ballade mélodique.
