“Emerge” is one of the few albums balanced equally and squarely upon the cusp of garage punk and proto-metal and in many ways, it was the first second coming and last stand of mid-sixties American garage punk. To note ending side one is an unlikely cover of The Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth.” Unlikely because the original is pretty and gentle, and how could The Litter tone down far enough to do it justice? Easy: they shoot up to an alien, gut bucket tempo just for the chorus (as the rhythm guitar is scraped out harsh and swift) and just keep on gliding down to a practically Donovan level of intensity for the rest of the track.
"Emerge" est l'un des rares albums équilibrés à la fois garage punk et proto-metal et à bien des égards, c'était la première et la dernière mixture réussie du garage punk américain des années soixante. A noter la fin de la première partie est une reprise improbable de "For What It’s Worth" de The Buffalo Springfield. Peu probable parce que l'original est joli et gentil, et comment The Litter peut-il assez loin pour lui rendre justice? Facile: ils misent sur un tempo extraterrestre, juste pour le refrain ( la guitare rythmique est saccadée et rapide) et continuent à glisser jusqu'à un niveau d'intensité pratiquement au niveau de Donovan pour le reste de la piste.
