Lightning, originaire de Minneapolis et issu en partie du groupe White Lightning (qui comprenait Tom « Zippy » Caplan et Woody Woodrich), propose en 1970 un album éponyme mêlant hard‑rock, rock psychédélique, acid‑rock et garage rock. Le disque se caractérise par une rythmique puissante, des guitares à l’énergie brute et des touches de Moog (notamment sur « When a Man Could Be Free »), ainsi qu’une interprétation quasi-homogène de la creamienne « Ghost Riders in the Sky ». Fruité d’influences blues‑rock et prog, l’album s’inscrit dans la veine heavy‑psych de l’époque.

Hailing from Minneapolis and emerging from White Lightning, the band Lightning released their self-titled LP in 1970. The album blends hard rock, psychedelic acid rock, garage influences, and even progressive passages. Featuring heavy riffs, a propulsive rhythm section, Moog-tinged vocals on “When a Man Could Be Free,” and a gritty version of “Ghost Riders in the Sky,” this record captures the raw, heavy psych sound of its time .
