Nous sommes alléchés dès l'écoute de l'agressif 'Head in the Clouds'. Ce morceau poursuit la course précédemment débutée avec le diable, le titre est bien méchant, gavé de soli plus incendiaires les uns que les autres, et l'on se prend à rêver de metal lourd. On notera ensuite le formidable rythme de « Dreams and Screams » qui reprend tout l'arsenal du Gun, assez bien structurée pour l'époque. Les roulements de la batterie sont évidents et malgré l'absence de double grosse caisse, la volonté d'Adrian et Paul est claire : sans savoir vraiment ce qu'ils faisaient, les frères ont probablement accouché là d'une des bases du heavy metal.
La course insensée se poursuit d'ailleurs et relance des éléments plus psychédéliques, comme l'hispanisante 'Situation Vacant', où la voix d'Adrian le fait carrément. La guitare reste une référence quasi ultime. Pour ces années où tout le monde ne parle que de Clapton (le Dieu) ou d'Hendrix (le Maître) , je ne saurais trop vous conseiller l'écoute attentive d’Adrian Gurvitz, qui est largement au niveau. Les solos n'en finissent plus, une vraie jam d'enfer, un superbe morceau.

La slide de 'Hobo', tout droit sortie des œuvres complètes des Allman Brothers, prouve cette autre influence majeure dans la musique de Gun.

D'ailleurs, les deux parties de 'Lady Ink' repartent dans l'hispanisant et font briller Adrian sur un flamenco. 'Lady Lou', chantée par Paul, nous replonge dans les effluves douces mais éthérées du flower power. Enfin 'Long Haïr Wildman' ressemble plus à un titre des Kinks: on nage dans la pop britannique, avec des grattes toujours aussi dingues en revanche.
On y était presque... Un petit effort supplémentaire aurait peut-être suffi pour positionner les Gun tout au sommet (soupir). Jolis tirs cependant, rechargez les barillets et réglez la hausse !
